Bookstore Program: FAQS
How do I re-order?
We recommend that you re-order on www.teacherwide.com. You need to set up an account and password with your first order. With every online purchase you accumulate bonus points to be redeemed as cash on future orders so it is worth it to order online! You can always phone or fax your orders as well.
How many books should I order at a time?
We recommend 1 book per student (i.e.: if you have 300 students, you should order at least 300 books -OR- 3 Bargain Bundles)
What is the turnaround time for bookstore orders?
Typically, if you order the bargain bundles they ship within 5 days. It may take a little longer if you order other items on Teacherwide depending on availability.
what is the difference between a bookstore and a book-fair?
A Student-Run Bookstore is not a book-fair. Whereas the goal of a book-fair is to raise money, the goal of a student-run bookstore is to make quality literature available to students. Furthermore, whereas a book fair may be conducted only once or twice a year, a student-run bookstore is open year-round, hence making literature accessible and convenient. Many schools run both bookstores and book-fairs and find that a bookstore actually increases earnings of a book fair.
How much space is required to operate a store?
Many educators think a large area is necessary to operate a store. Not true. Most Student-Run Bookstores operate on one or two tables in a strategically selected location in the school (i.e. hallway, gym, etc.)
How do I prepare the student worker?
Our instruction manual and resource guide, included in your bookstore start-up kit, explains in detail the daily operations of the store, including how to prepare your staff.
What do I charge per book?
Normally, the stores charge between $1.50-$2 to make a profit to purchase more books. You still want to keep the cost per book relatively low for the students to have easy access to books!
Can I pick and choose the titles in the bundles?
No, the bargain bundles come prepackaged with a variety of titles and authors. You will only receive 1-3 copies per title so there is a nice variety. If you'd like to purchase individual titles (and supplies) you can do so on www.teacherwide.com where the discounts we offer are up to 90% off list prices! We do have a sample list of titles available upon request.
What materials do I need?
Schoolwide has developed a start-up package that provides you with all you need to get started. The package includes a cash register, display bins, paid stamp and instructional manual. Books can be purchased separately.
How many of each item should I purchase initially?
- Books - We recommend you start with 1 book per student (i.e. if you have 300 students, purchase 3 bargain bundles)
- Bookstore Start up Kit – One per school
- Guides – One guide per teacher (grade appropriate)
- Featured Text Set – One set per classroom or per guide purchased
Which display should I purchase?
This depends on your needs and space:
- Bins – hold 30 books each – easy to store and easy to label and categorize books
- Wire rack displays – hold 100 books – easy to set up, holds more books, display is more inline with a real store
- Lock cart – displays approx. 400 books – easiest set up – provides storage, security and display of books, least set up time required.
