Literacy Consultant K-5
The mission of Schoolwide's Professional Development is to inspire educators to embrace best practices in literacy instruction and foster collaboration in order to create a dynamic environment in which teaching and learning are authentic and engaging.

For the last fifteen (15) years, Schoolwide Inc's Professional Development team has partnered with thousands of schools and districts across the country to develop teacher expertise and improve student achievement in the areas of reading and writing.

The demand for Schoolwide's Professional Development and Literacy Consulting Services has grown dramatically over the last 2 years and we are seeking passionate qualified educators to join our team.

The Literacy Consultant will be part of Schoolwide's Professional Services Team which strives to prepare educators for new literacy initiatives, supports them with best practices, and designs differentiated professional development opportunities in response to the individual needs of each school.

We are looking for educators based in the NYC, NJ, and IL areas.

Job Responsibilities & Qualifications
Responsibilities of the Literacy Consultant to include:
  • Support schools in their implementation and/or enhancement of a Balanced Literacy Model of instruction inclusive of whole group and small group instruction, and independent reading and writing.
  • Support administration, teachers, and specialists with implementation of Schoolwide's Fundamentals Reading and Writing curriculum resources.
  • Provide on-site demonstration modeling of whole class lessons, student conferences, and small group instruction.
  • Deliver engaging and interactive workshop sessions designed to deepen teacher knowledge and understanding.
  • Work with administration, teachers, and specialists to plan a clearly articulated, standards-aligned curriculum map.
  • Collect and analyze data so as to foster collaborative conversations designed to catalyze purposeful change and improvement.

Basic Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of successful teaching experience in a K-5 classroom
  • 2+ years of instructional leadership or professional development experience
  • Masters degree and K-5 teaching certification
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge and of current best practices in Balanced Literacy Instruction, specifically Reading and Writing Workshop, and Guided Reading and Small Group Instruction
  • Demonstrated ability to model effective instruction for whole class and small groups
  • Experience and comfort with using a variety of digital resources
  • Superior presentation and communication skills and the ability to interact with and present to adult participants
  • Passionate team player with a drive to learn from and collaborate with other intelligent and highly, motivated professionals
